We've talked to makeup artists galore, and the truth is,
there isn't one right way to apply blush. Depending on your face shape, there's
a way for each of us to get the most out of our rosy cheek look. Danielle Gray,
makeup artist and The Style and Beauty Doctor blogger
gives us the low down on the best ways to apply blush.
Long
For long face shapes, apply blush on the apples and blend out
towards the temples. Tip: To get a natural lit from within flush for any face
shape, first apply a cream blush with a fluffy blush like Hourglass No. 2 blush
brush (or you can cheat and use your fingers), then apply your foundation as
you normally would. Finish off with a powder blush.
Oval
For oval faces, apply blush on the apples of the cheeks and
blend with a blush brush. Tip: for something a little more dramatic, after you’ve
applied foundation and a powder blush, apply a second powder blush using an
angled brush. If you get a little crazy with the color, just dust loose powder
on your cheek bones to tone it down.
Round
To slim a round face, apply your blush in an angular motion
blending from the apples of the cheeks towards the temples. Tip: if you have
dry skin or fine lines and wrinkles, try a cream blush. If your skin is oily,
stick to powder blush. Powder blush is also better when the temps go up, while
cream blush is better for cold water.
Square
For aqaure faces with a stronger jawline, apply your blush in
a linear motion a few inches from the sides of your nose. Tip: for all day
staying power on your night out, apply cream blush as a base then top with a
similarly colored powder blush.
